The Stone Foxes

The Stone Foxes are San Francisco's rock band.  They bear the torch of their predecessors with the knowledge that rock 'n roll can move a new generation. They’ve played in front of thousands at festivals like Outside Lands and Voodoo Fest, they’ve headlined the legendary Fillmore Theater in their hometown and they have supported acts like The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant and ZZ Top.  Now, with the release of their fourth album, Twelve Spells, they have solidified a place in their City's rich rock 'n roll history.

Founded by brothers Shannon(vocals/drums/harp) and Spence Koehler(guitar/vocals), who came from the Sierra Nevada foothills near Tollhouse CA, The Stone Foxes started back in the Koehler’s SF State days in the Sunset District of San Francisco. Two weeks before they went on tour in 2011, they decided they needed a keyboard player and they added Elliott Peltzman from Fairfax CA to play for a couple months...but he never left. They needed another drummer who could also play bass and guitar for tour in 2013, so Shannon called his high school friend Brian "The Buffalo" Bakalian...he never left either.  Their old friend Vince Dewald came in to jam one day later on that year, and after the Indiana kid started singing, playing his lefty guitar, and his brother's right handed bass upside down, it was a done deal.  Finally in 2014, after convincing(basically begging) Vince's old bandmate to move back from his home town of Boston, Ben Andrews came out to play guitar and violin.  After their first practice with Ben, the circle was finally complete and they had beers at the Lone Star tavern on Harrison Street to celebrate their new found brotherhood.

The Stone Foxes are an experience to dive into, to get wild with, to sweat with.  "The Stone Foxes have an energetic style that's rooted in swampy, foot-stomping rock...ambitious arrangements with diverse moods ranging from acoustic twang to thunderous electric-guitar riffs."
– NPR/WXPN "WORLD CAFE"

Invoking the audience with their commanding stage presence, even jumping down into the crowd if the mood strikes. Their fans know they are in for something action packed and they light a fire in the band, just as the band spreads fire back into them. Guitarists digging in, lead vocals changing between two unique voices with impassioned nuance, and keyboard and organ sounds that fill the space with smoke and burning embers. There are crunchy drum tones, wailing harmonica draws and violin cries that can silence even the most raucous of rooms. But this is not a sit-down-and-watch kind of event. Like Elvis once said about rock n roll, “If you feel it, you can’t help but move to it.” The Stone Foxes' live show brandishes this kind of dynamic passion on stage.  It's impossible not to feel it.

With the release of Twelve Spells, the band has chronicled their new beginning.

"Garage rock gold...the sound of a band hitting their stride.”

– PANDORA

“Perfect back-to-basics rock”

– ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

The sounds they are creating are new with tinges of western darkness, punk, surf, and americana, but are strongly tied together by their everlasting rock 'n roll core.  Lyrics about gentrification, income inequality, romance, and heart surgeries pour out of their stream of consciousness.  It's a fresh rock 'n roll album that chronicles the years of their unification, taking on the issues of their lives and our times.

"Driving this Weekend?  Listen to Twelve Spells by The Stone Foxes...Time will fucking fly."
– DENIS LEARY

Strange Vine

Strange Vine's earthy, energetic music is a fusion of blues, psychedelic, and traditional American rock. It's a sound born of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, from two men who were raised there. Ian Blesse plays drums and Rhodes piano (simultaneously), while Toby Cordova fleshes out the songs with a rotating arsenal of guitars (including one made from a cigar box). Both contribute vocals toward a rich, layered sound that's greater than the sum of its parts.

Strange Vine's has shared the stage with acts like Cage The Elephant, Band Of Skulls, The Growlers, Delta Spirit, Lord Huron, B.B. King, Robin Trower, Jackie Greene, Kurt Vile, Wild Belle, The Stone Foxes, Cold War Kids, Matthew Logan Vasquez, Fuzz, JEFF The Brotherhood, Dead Meadow, White Denim.........

Katie Cash

Bay Area-bred singer-songwriter-guitarist Katie Cash writes personally charged, emotion-packed songs and performs them with a passionate urgency that marks her as a uniquely compelling artist. Cash's commanding songcraft, expressive vocals and bracing guitar work make her debut solo album Gift Horse a rousing collection that showcases her pointed songwriting and the edgy musical sensibility that's been honed by extensive roadwork and onstage experience.

"I'd describe it as roots-rock storytelling," Cash says of the Independent Music Award-winning Gift Horse. "The songs deal with love, heartbreak and various inner reflections."

Beyond her solo work, Cash has also found time to maintain her membership in two notable Bay Area bands: the socially-conscious female funk-rock foursome Skip the Needle, with which she recorded the acclaimed debut album We Ain't Never Going Back; and the punchy, punk- inflected mixed-gender quartet Year of the Fist, whose three releases— the latest being 2019's Revive Me—have attracted notice on the local punk scene and beyond.

"Being in three bands can be exhausting," admits Cash, "but it's been important to me to cultivate these multiple outlets because of how I feel within each of them, and because I have a genuinely good time in all three. I do love working in such vastly different settings, because I can express various aspects of myself and my musical passions."

Cash's eclectic personal history has put her in a unique position to explore a wide range of musical interests. Growing up in close proximity to the Bay Area's punk, indie and skater scenes, she developed a deeply rooted sense of musical iconoclasm, absorbing punk, blues and gospel, not to mention the big band records she'd hear on her grandmother's antique hi-fi. After teaching herself to play guitar at the age of 12, she joined a series of bands, many of them female, before launching her own outfit, alternately known as Coal Pitts Wash and Dolorata. She also spent two and a half years playing with Turbonegra, an all-female tribute to the Norwegian punk band Turbonegro. She then attended Mills College's prestigious music program, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition.

The lessons that Cash has learned along the way are reflected on such memorable Gift Horse tracks as the expansive "Year Gone By," the haunting "Broken Nights" and the dynamic title track. Another highlight is Cash's vivid reading of the Patti Smith classic "Pissing in a River." The album, produced by Julie Wolf (Ani DiFranco, Carly Simon, Indigo Girls), features guest appearances by acclaimed singer-songwriter Kris Delmhorst, 4 Non Blondes member Dawn Richardson and noted drummer Allison Miller.

"I would say Gift Horse is a chapter in a longer story," Cash reflects. "The album was a vision that I had to see through to the end. Making it felt like a real achievement. It was a labor of love and a huge amount of work. I'm really proud of this record, and all of the talent, time, effort and community that went into it."

With Gift Horse now a reality after its lengthy gestation, Katie Cash encapsulates her goals thusly: "I'm currently working with such an incredibly talented group of people. I'm focusing on bringing the music of Gift Horse to audiences through touring and performing at festivals. I will be releasing some singles in the coming year. I feel blessed, and with the same people by my side, I will continue to keep writing, creating and bringing more music into the world."
