We like the way the name sounds so we set it to music. Our own Luke made a beautiful record and we joined him to make something together. We are creating songs from melodies that can turn from gorgeous to challenging to a little scary and back again. Sounds are driven and shaped by, but hopefully never grounded by, rhythms that entrance before performing a somersault. It all seems silly on paper, but there are no dirty words: groovy, psychedelic, pretty etc... are all fair game. It is our hope that we generate something generous and surprising, crafted but instinctive, even as it coalesces. So far it is a lovely ruckus.
Harriet

"In the first song on Harriet's debut EP, the audaciously titled "I Slept With All Your Mothers," you can almost feel Alex Casnoff releasing his pent-up frustration. Casnoff, who spent the past couple of years playing in L.A. bands Dawes and Papa, has struck out on his own as Harriet (the band name honors his grandmother) with a five-song EP, "Tell the Right Story," due out Jan. 31. The singer/pianist/guitarist, joined by bassist Aaron Folb, guitarist Adam Gunther and drummer Henry Kwapis, certainly ladles on the drama. "I wanted it to feel big … cinematic. I wanted every song to be a movie," Casnoff says, and if the picture's not yet crystal-clear, at least he has the camera rolling. Casnoff tells Paste (where the song premiered today) that "I Slept With All Your Mothers" is "about the feelings that come with a break-up … anger, guilt, nostalgia." Good thing it's not literal, dude, 'cause them's fighting words." - Buzzbands LA
