Another Planet Entertainment and The Independent is proud to be bringing The 2011 US Air Guitar Championships to back to San Francisco for two nights on June 24 and 25! On these very special evenings, we are looking to find the best local Air Guitarists to represent San Francisco in the National Championships. One winner from each night's competition, and one from each of the 20 other cities where USAG is holding Regional Competitions, will be flown to Chicago on July 23 to compete in the Air Guitar National Finals for the crown of US Air Guitar Champion. The Winner of the National Finals will become The 2011 US Champion, and will win a trip to the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland this August, where he or she will represent the stars and stripes against national champions from 20 other countries all around the world!

Everyone in the Bay Area is encouraged to either sign up and compete, or buy a ticket to come see for yourself what kind of Air Guitar talent San Francisco has to offer (sign up to compete at www.USAirGuitar.com , and purchase tickets to witness this event from The Independent’s site or at the box office).

Each US Regional consists of two rounds. In Round 1, each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. Competitors with highest scores from Round 1 advance to Round 2, where they must then perform to a surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform to 60 seconds of a song, and are judged on a combination of Technical Merit, Stage Presence, and “Airness." All guitars must be invisible. In each city, the jury is a panel of independent judges that are hand picked by US Air Guitar. The results of the jury cannot be protested.

In addition to local competitors, San Francisco is the only city on the 2011 US Air Guitar Tour that will see special Half Time Performances by 2008 SF, US & World Air Guitar Champion Hot Lixx Hulahan (Friday 6/24) and 2003 US & World Air Guitar Champion + star C-Diddy (Friday 6/24). These are once in a lifetime performances by veterans of the craft that are not to be missed.

Bjorn Turoque, who co-stars in the movie Air Guitar Nation along with C-Diddy, will also return to host both nights of the event.
